Getting a Global Entry interview can be a challenge, especially in high-demand locations. As more travelers seek the benefits of Global Entry, in-person appointment slots have become highly competitive, particularly in cities like San Francisco and Charlotte, NC. In this post, we’ll break down the process of securing a Global Entry appointment, explain why slots are scarce, and share strategies to increase your chances of snagging one as soon as it opens.
After applying for Global Entry, the final step is an in-person interview at one of the various enrollment centers across the country, but finding an available appointment at a nearby location can be tough. While the availability of appointments can vary significantly across different locations, each location releases appointments in two ways.
1. Scheduled Batch Releases
Locations release most of their appointments in large, scheduled batches. For instance, Charlotte, NC releases all appointments for the following month on the first Monday of each month. This batch of appointments tends to be booked quickly, and once they’re gone finding an opening can be very difficult until the next batch is released.

2. Rolling Drops and Short-Term Additions
Once the monthly appointments are fully booked, the remaining options typically come from cancellations or when additional short-term appointments are added due to extra staffing. These 'extra' appointments usually become available for dates within the next one to two weeks, and these are the most competitive appointments.
As demand grows, certain locations have appointments that vanish within seconds of release. So, while it can feel discouraging to miss one, it’s worth remembering that competitive locations often have multiple appointments popping up each day. With a little patience and a few strategic moves, you can significantly improve your chances of securing an appointment.
Here are some tips to help you optimize your speed and response time when checking for openings. While our alert service can be a big help, these tips apply to anyone actively searching for an appointment.
1. Stay Logged In to your Trusted Traveler Account
First, make sure you’re logged in to your Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) account. This may sound obvious, but logging in each time can waste precious seconds. After logging in, navigate to the scheduling page.
You can login here.
2. Keep the Scheduling Page Open
Open the scheduling page in a separate tab or window and keep it open throughout your day. Pro tip: you do not need to refresh the page to see the updated schedule. Simply click on your location title to refresh the availability. Clicking the location link alone will give you the most current information.
You can find the scheduling page here.
3. Get Text Alerts from Global Entry Spotter, or Check Every 5 Minutes
Checking frequently (every 5 minutes or so when possible) is ideal and, with some luck, you may find an appointment within a few days if you are persistent.
With text alerts from Global Entry Spotter, however, you’ll only need to check the page when you receive a notification from us, easing the stress on your clicking finger. When you get a text or email alert from us, simply click the location link to see if the appointment is still available! Competition is fierce, so it may take a few tries even with our alerts to catch an opening quick enough.
4. Use a Computer, If Possible
Checking appointments is fastest on a computer. It’s slightly less convenient on a phone due to smaller screens and mobile browsers, but it’s still effective if you don’t have constant access to a computer. We recommend trying both options to see what works best for your workflow.
5. Book First, Decide Later
When an appointment opens up, book it as quickly as possible. Appointment slots go fast, so it’s best to secure it immediately, even if it’s not your ideal date or location. There is no penalty for canceling, so you can safely reserve an appointment and keep looking for a better one if needed. If a more convenient slot appears later, you can easily drop the current appointment and reschedule.
6. Set Alerts with Our Service for Specific Days and Date Ranges
With our alert service, you can tailor notifications to specific days of the week or date ranges that fit your schedule. This way, you’ll only get alerts for slots that work for you, saving time and reducing the need to check irrelevant openings.
If you’re finding it tough to secure an appointment due to high competition, our alert service can drastically improve your odds compared to checking randomly. We monitor openings in real time, sending you a notification the moment an appointment becomes available. Instead of having to repeatedly click or guess the best times to check, you’ll receive a text or email alert, giving you a head start on other applicants.
In addition to alerts, we provide real-time scheduling trend data for every domestic enrollment center, so you can see which day of the week is most popular for appointment releases. This data is completely free and can be found here.
Finding a Global Entry appointment isn’t always a straightforward process, but with the right strategy and a bit of patience, you can improve your chances of booking an interview in a reasonable timeframe. Understanding the process, staying logged in, and checking frequently—especially with our alerts—can make all the difference. With persistence, you may be able to book and complete your Global Entry interview within a few days. Happy searching!
